Carol Service at Sheffield Cathedral

A number of members braved the cold to attend the South Yorkshire Federation's annual Carol Service at Sheffield Cathedral.  After an M & S lunch followed by Mulled Wine,  we joined a packed cathedral of fellow WI members to enjoy the chosen readings and carols.  Sherry and Mince pies rounded off the service as we chatted with ladies from other WI's.

Party Night

We enjoyed our Christmas party last Wednesday.  The food was (as ever) delicious.

The singers had voices like Angels and entertained us well.
And even though this is a very blurry photo, I couldn't resist Peggy's face as she tried unsuccessfully to avoid being photographed!

Holy Trinity Christmas Tree Festival

The theme of this years festival was 'Pantomimes' and we were given 'The Wizard of Oz'.  Mary Wilman
kindly collated ideas and materials ready for a group of members to put them into practice.  Red Shoes,
Tin Men, Scarecrows, Lions and other clever ideas were eagerly put together over 'Coffee and Biscuits'.  Mary and Sylvia then skilfully decorated the tree in time for the opening service.  As you can see from the photo the tree looked fantastic, and even if we don't win the 'Best Adult' category again it was lovely to be involved in such a wonderful community event.

Evita

Many thanks to Sybil for organising yet another enjoyable theatre visit to see EVITA.

For many of us it was the first time we'd seen the show and we weren't disappointed - it was a fantastic production.  Here's to the next show!!

Inspirational Candles

Many thanks to Sue and Steve Delaney  for inviting WI members to their home to view a wide range of hand poured candles blended with 100% pure essential oils and soya wax.  With candles made individually by Steve and then beautifully packaged by Sue, it didn't take long for members to make their choices.  refreshments were also provided to round off a really enjoyable evening.

Thorpe Show

Congratulations to Sybil for not only winning the 'craft' category of the show but also winning 'Best in Show' - a well-deserved and very popular result.  The WI craft stall proved a great success as well - thanks to all members who supported the stall both on the day and making produce beforehand.

September Meeting

Last night we were highly entertained by the lovely Milly Johnson - author and "Come Dine With Me " star.  She is (as you would expect) a fabulous story teller and kept us amused and chuckling all evening.  We could have listened to her all evening and its great to see that she is still a proper Barnsley Lass at heart. ( I loved your frock too Milly).

She brought a selection of her books along to talk about, and when I got home I discovered I already had a few of these on my "to read" pile - I shall have to get stuck in!
We had on sale a few of the bags etc that we have been making at our craft evenings.  The rest will be on sale at the village fair on the 15th September.  I think £6 is a fabulous price - bargain!!

And one or two comments about the number of birthdays this month led Jill to explain that we September birthdays are in fact as a direct result of our parents enjoying Christmas a bit too much!!!  There's always one who lowers the tone!

Flower power

Many thanks to Jayne Spaven for providing photos of the last meeting  for the blog.  Michelle gave a demonstration of flower arranging which I understood went down really well.

 Lucky recipients!
And two very patriotic tea ladies!!!

Card making round at Di's

Sue, Mary and myself had a great evening card making for our stall at the village fair.

Between us we made almost 50 cards!!! All unique and professionally packaged. I think we did brilliantly.
We had a right old natter too - many thanks ladies, I really enjoyed your company.
And I must apologise for the worlds largest spider!! Shame we didn't get a photo!

Snowdrop Walk

We enjoyed coffee and cake in the cafe whilst the rain passed over but it was soon sunny and dry and it was a lovely walk round the gardens. Afterwards we went round the servants wing, which I hadn't visited before. It was a lovely few hours out and a break from the normal routine.

You were right - the clotted cream scones were delicious.

February Meeting

At our meeting this week, we were educated and entertained by the ladies and gentlemen of the Heartsease Folk Dance group.

They performed dances which would have been danced as far back as 1651.

And then with Tena Lady's firmly in place, some of our group joined in - to much hilarity!!!!
