Wentworth WI Christmas Party

A large number of members, dressed in their Christmas Finery, enjoyed an evening of wonderful hospitality provided by Wentworth WI.

After a rousing 'Vaudeville' rendition of Jerusalem we were soon tucking in to a superb Christmas buffet - the sweets were amazing!!

Christmas Tree Festival

Mary and Sylvia did a fantastic job decorating the tree with all the items made by members at the crafting session.  Holy Trinitys' Christmas Fayre and Tree Festival was once again a great success with over 800 visitors during the weekend.  Voters placed our tree 2nd behind the Mens Breakfast tree so we were very pleased with the result of voting.

Doesn't the church look wonderful!

Going to the Dogs! (Owlerton Stadium)

Even though it was cold and miserable outside, the restaurant at the Owlerton Stadium was warm and inviting as 27 members and friends/husbands took their seats for what proved to be a really enjoyable evening.

Crafting for the Christmas Tree Festival

Can't believe it's that time of year again!!
Oh yes it is!!

Alison and Mary ....... busy as bees!

A lovely warm trinity Centre, along with Sheila's tea and scones (what else) saw Mary marshall her troops once again for Holy Trinitys' Annual Christmas Tree Festival Craft workshop.
The theme this year is 'to represent your own organisation' so of course we had plenty to work on including 'Jam and Jerusalem', 'Sunflowers and bees', 'tea and cakes'   ...... and so much more!
A great time was had by all and the tree is going to look fantastic!!

November Meeting - Making something for Christmas with Sue Dixon

The meeting started with a 'thank you' to Dorothy and Alison for all their hard work co-ordinating the making of our new banner.  All agreed they'd done a fantastic job.

Jean Philip and Pat Shaw (deputising for Jean Newbold) then went through all the exciting things on offer in the run-up to Christmas whilst we all busily signed up and filled in our diaries.

Sue Dixon then introduced us to all the wonderful Christmas Craft activities she'd planned for us and we all really enjoyed ourselves and were quite proud of what we had to take home!!

First came the cards ......

....... then the gift tags .......

Aren't we clever!! (Well Sue had done so much preparation even the most ham-fisted amongst us couldn't go wrong!)

It was quite therapeutic 'gluing' and 'sticking' and of course chatting and after we'd finished we enjoyed wonderful refreshments served by Linda and Joan.

Everyone was reminded that we're 'off to the dogs' on Tuesday 15th November at Owlerton Stadium and that our December meeting (party) is a week later than usual.

South Yorkshire Federation Quiz

Thorpe Hesley WI Quiz team comprised Pat, Dorothy, Jayne and 'Captain Mary' as they joined 18 other teams from across the Federation at the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall in Thurcroft.

A packed hall!

The topics were wide-ranging and we started well with 18/20 in the first round. We ended up with a total of 63/80 which we were quite pleased with and found that our 'neighbours' Wentworth had finished second with 69/80 with Penistone finishing well-deserved winners with a  massive 71/80.  However Warmsworth WI at the other venue beat that score so very well done to them.

Well done Wentworth WI - 2nd place

After the quiz we enjoyed wonderful refreshments served by ladies from the newly-formed Ravenfield WI group

At least we won the raffle!! Well done Mary.

An excellent Federation event - well done to all involved.

October Meeting - AGM

A large turn-out for the AGM meant a rousing rendition of Jerusalem started the meeting.

Mary started the meeting by introducing the committee members and their new roles/titles and they were thanked for all their hard work over the year in organising a full calendar of meetings, outings and visits fulfilling the aims of the WI to educate and empower women giving members the chance to learn new skills, campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities as well as providing friendship.  Sheila Kavanagh was welcomed on to the committee and all members were asked to 'buddy up' with a member of the committee to help whenever necessary - an excellent idea to share the load.  We are truly blessed to have such a vibrant and flourishing WI!!
Jean gave a thorough report as Secretary and the healthy state of our finances was shown by the accounts summary made available to all.
Our long-serving treasurer Peggy Calland was then presented with flowers and a card in recognition of 30 years of managing the finances - she will support Jean Philip as she takes over the role of treasurer.

Retiring Treasurer receives our well-earned thanks in recognition of outstanding service

Mary then gave an outline of the year ahead, particularly the next few busy months, birthday girls Pam Holmes and Joan Egley received their cards before we eagerly tucked into our Pie n Peas produced once again by a healthy Pam Barraclough - she also made the muffins!

Pam back in the kitchen!

Our President Mary 'multi-tasking' as a waitress

Photos of the last year were then shown on the screen and members enjoyed 'reminiscing' over the things we'd got up to and past members were fondly remembered as well.

An excellent meeting - and much to look forward to in the year ahead thanks to our hard-working committee - CHEERS to Thorpe Hesley WI!!
