Lifewise Visit - Hellaby

Door 2 Door transport picked up 13 WI members from the Red Lion to travel to the Lifewise Centre at Hellaby. Coffee and biscuits greeted us as we waited for other groups to arrive.  We were divided into groups to visit four separate presentations all delivered in different ways.

Arrival refreshments

Event programme

The 'A' team ready for the presentations!

Mobility scooters and aids

Being prepared for Dementia .... a superb presentation

After a wonderful lunch of soup and sandwiches we then had time to visit the many stands on offer of services available in our area.

Carole gets her crutches repaired - for free!!

Dorothy encourages Joan to get a free walking sick

Pat's happy to learn that she's a safe drinker!

Alison and Joan getting the information they need

Jean and Ruth getting up-to-date advice

After a good walk round all the stands and information stalls we listened to a very good presentation on telephone scams and advice on internet security which we all found valuable. A final coffee and then the raffle in which Jayne, Carolyn and Joan all won prizes ...... then it was time for home.

Another excellent and informative visit - and it was free!!  We would thoroughly recommend other WI's to visit if they could.

Summer Outing to the Garden Room Wentworth

A sunny but blustery August afternoon saw 21 members gather at Wentworth Garden Centre for  'afternoon tea' and of course a good look round the shop!

Sheila and Elsie buying a birthday gift
Jean getting some advice on what to buy from Pat and Ruth

President Jean then 'mustered' us all into the beautifully decorated 'Garden Room' where we were greeted with a wonderful array of sandwiches and cakes - it didn't take us long to demolish the lot!!

Mmm ....... Don't they look good

In fact we were so engrossed in conversation after our tea the café manageress had to politely ask us to leave as the gates were about to be locked!!

A really enjoyable afternoon.

Summer Party - Wild West Evening

Well done to the Committee for organising a wonderful evening!  So good in fact that we couldn't get people to go home - the cleaners had to sweep us out!!

All members made a real effort to enter into the spirit of the 'theme' with Sheriff Sybil winning best dressed on the night.

Heritage Treasure Hunt

On a typical Wimbledon evening (sun and showers!) 15 WI teams from the South Yorkshire federation gathered at The Well Church on Ecclesall Road, Sheffield for the annual Heritage Treasure Hunt.

Captain Mary and her team!

Mary's found an answer!
After a stroll along Ecclesall Road, up to the Botanical Gardens and then along to Endcliffe Park the clues were varied and interesting and we had some laughs along the way.

This time its Pat who's spotted an answer on Sharrow Vale Road
(good job the Doughnut shop was shut!)

Interesting shop-wall graffiti

Although we weren't the fastest team ( we were too busy window-shopping) we eventually arrived back at the Well Church for a much appreciated cuppa ........

......... and excellent WI tea (why else did we sign our names up!)

........ and of course a chat with other WI members.

The answers were then given out and the team results announced -

3rd Place - Warmsworth WI
2nd Place - Penistone WI
Ist Place - Thorpe Hesley WI

We were really surprised to win but delighted when each of us received a beautiful bouquet of flowers as our prize.

Our hosts Ecclesall Road WI were then given a well-deserved round of applause for organising a wonderful event followed by excellent refreshments.

Our hosts for the evening WIER

Another excellent WI event.
