August Outing to Penistone

Despite the showers we had a wonderful day in the nearby market town of Penistone.  Travelling by train from Chapeltown we had a short walk to the St Johns Community Centre for their Thursday Country Market.

                                                                 Ready for the train .....

Pat, Elsie, Sheila and Ann ...... ready to shop 'til they drop!

A lovely welcome and cuppa greeted us from an ex Thorpe Hesley WI member before we treated ourselves to some home-made baking, jams and other tasty treats.

                                                                  WI members re-united
Peggy meets a fellow MBE award winner ....

...... before we enjoy a cuppa

Mary stocking up her freezer with some artisan bread

We enjoyed a leisurely stroll through Penistone, past St John's Church popping into shops as they took our fancy before treating ourselves to some great bargains at the covered market on Back Lane.

We had a great time in J & B Collectables shop - reminiscing rather than buying though!
Preferring a bargain in the market!

After all that shopping we really were ready for our lunch ...

...... and pudding!!

After a really fantastic lunch at the Generations Café (we can certainly recommend it) it was then a leisurely walk back to the station.  Penistone is certainly worth a Thursday visit and many of us said we'd be back soon.

In fact Peggy and Elsie fancy doing the Trans-Pennine Trail!!!
