Thorpe Hesley Village Show

Thorpe Hesley Village Show, always a great community event, saw the WI represented in a number of ways.
A stand publicising the many activities of the WI manned by a rota of members proved very popular and the baking and items of bric-a-brac on sale made a sizeable sum for WI funds.

Alison, Carol, Mary and Jayne 'manning' the stall

Happy shoppers!

Jean and Elsie checking the produce

Sheila entered the dog show  .....

...... Alison's cushions were highly commended

...... and Sheila's Chocolate Cake won 'best in show!'  We've all been lucky to sample Sheila's baking at WI meeting so we knew she'd do well.

Many thanks to all members who contributed in any way to the success of the stall.

Remember next meeting is the AGM - don't have any tea because Pam's making Pie and Peas!!
See you there.

September Meeting - Colour Analysis

President Jean welcomed us back after the summer break with the good news that Mary had become a Grandma again with the birth of her Grandson Zebedee born 4 weeks early - mother, son and grandma are all doing well!

Flowers were presented to Peggy (80 years young next week) and a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday sung.  Peggy had also been in the local paper that week after a special presentation to mark her 60 years of continuous service to the Guiding Movement!  What an achievement Peggy - very well done!!

Now that our resident chef Pam is fit and well we were quick to sign up for Pie n Peas at next months AGM and visits and outings were discussed enthusiastically.

Sue Burton was then introduced to talk to us about Colour and Style Analysis and what a treat was in store for us .................

First of all we were given an envelope and a quick activity to do - straight away we realised that it was important to 'wear' your clothes rather than your clothes 'wear' you!! When we found out Sue needed a guinea pig to help her, panic broke out and we suddenly realised that perhaps we should have taken more than 5 minutes to get ready before coming out!

Fortunately Pauline was chosen to sit in the hot seat and the rest of us could relax and enjoy a really interesting presentation on how our face is suited to either Spring, Summer. Autumn or Winter colours.

Pauline was quickly adorned in different fabrics both in terms of colour and texture and soon it became apparent that she was an Autumn Girl.  It was amazing how we soon 'tuned in' to the ideas Sue was explaining and we quickly responded 'yes' or 'no' to colours for Pauline.

How easy it was when you knew how!!  Pauline was given a well-earned round of applause for being such a willing model and Sue fully deserved her vote of thanks for giving such an informative presentation.

After a welcome cuppa and refreshments we all rushed home to revamp our wardrobes!
