June Meeting - What the Butler Saw by Michael Davidson-Paine

Despite a cold 'first day of summer', we soon warmed to the theme of our presentation for the evening given by Michael Davidson-Paine on the Life and Work of a Butler to the rich and famous.

A very smart Butler!

Michael explained how he became a Butler and the training involved in London.  He worked in both the House of Commons and Lords before working in the Royal Household for the Queen, Queen Mother and Princess Margaret.  His many stories and the variety of work involved in being a Butler were fascinating and we certainly learned a lot.  Michael also talked about his time spent in America working for a multi-millionaire educating him in the ways of the British Upper Classes.  However the lure of 'home' overcame his massive salary and he returned to work in London again.  Following lots of 'questions' from the floor, Sue Dixon gave a heartfelt vote of thanks from us all and thanked Michael for a superb presentation.

We enjoyed refreshments before the business part of the meeting led by Sue Dixon with Mary and Jean being on holiday.   Details of forthcoming events were given out including the Rockley Rally and next months summer party.

Our birthday girls received their cards and flowers ........
